About ElderHearth
Helping the people you love stay home, safely.
Who is behind ElderHearth
I'm Maggie Ellison. I started ElderHearth after spending about six years helping my own parents stay in their home as they got older, first my mother as her balance declined, then my father after a fall. I am not a doctor or a nurse. I'm a daughter who learned this the hard way, one confusing phone call and one late-night search at a time.
I built this site so other families don't have to start from scratch the way I did. The goal is simple: practical, well-sourced help for keeping an aging parent safe and independent at home, written with the warmth I wish someone had offered me.
How we decide what to publish
Every article aims to be two things at once: effective and kind.
- We back facts with authoritative sources, including the CDC, Medicare.gov, the National Institute on Aging, and the VA, and we link them so you can check our work.
- We do not invent statistics, credentials, or prices. When something needs to be confirmed for your specific situation, we say so.
- We write dignity-first. Caring for a parent is emotional, and we try never to lose sight of that.
A note on advice
ElderHearth offers general information, not medical, legal, or financial advice. Always consult a qualified professional about your parent's specific needs.
If you're in the middle of something hard, you're welcome to reach out. I read every message.
